What is deltamethrin, and why does it matter?

The European Union regulates biocides (Product-Type 18: insecticides) under Regulation (EU) No. 528/2012; deltamethrin is approved as an active substance under that framework, with its approval expiration date recently extended, which reflects that it meets the required efficacy and safety criteria. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has also reviewed the maximum residue limits (MRLs) of deltamethrin in food; public findings indicate that the established MRLs are safe for consumers when good-use practices are followed. For a product to be approved or authorized in the European Union means its active ingredient has been evaluated by ECHA (the European Chemicals Agency) and/or by member states under the biocides regulation. Reviewers look at toxicology data, ecotoxicology, efficacy, and conditions of use. It's not a "marketing seal": it's a legal requirement to be sold as a biocide in the EU.
